What I most appreciate the Lula is that he has not revised the (necessary) reforms of the FHC.
For example exchange rate freed, restrictions lifted, etc.

I think one can hardly compare that. During Brazil a solid course at relatively low but increasing level drives, Chavez through a gamble. A GDP of more than the double per capita than Brazil, based on the high price of oil, has so far satisfied his electorate and ensures probably also his reelection if such still takes place. The military Gets a lot of new weapons and a decent salary, while there are social assistance operations for broad grass-roots classes. Now a unit currency for the ALBA countries has been announced last week as a declaration of war against the US dollar, the Sucre. All of which have a GDP less than half as high as Venezuela, so of course the lead falls to the but also the highest risk.
