My experience 2 months ago:

A "normal" registered (no express mail) of Bremen to Rio: Monday Thursday sent off, here... (in the same week).

Maybe I was just lucky or it was due to the letter?

Letter or "carta registrada" are always faster and have also the advantage to arrive. So much is lost by normal post.
If it's only daily post, I would prefer the normal letter with a term of 10-14 days. An original observation on the edge: Letters to Santa Maria / RS from here are days on average 3-4 less on the way as letters to São Paulo...

My experience is that letters usually a week are normal airmail... There has been also been the case that a Biref was still in the same week as, but has used also 1 month....
